BOXER BREED COUNCIL
Judges Definitions

(amended 1/12/2011)


 

The Breed Council maintains the judging lists A1, A2, A3, B & C.

Applications for the judging lists must be sent to the Breed Council Secretary, for the Scrutineer to check on behalf of the Judges Sub-Committee, except Specialists applications for C & B lists which must go the nearest Boxer Breed Club Secretary for committee approval in the first instance, who will then forward to the Breed Council Secretary for the Scrutineer to check.

After checking the A3 applications they will go out to clubs and those given a majority approval will the go on A3 list, only then can judges accept appointments.


For A2 a separate form obtained from the Breed Council Secretary will be sent to the Kennel Club for approval and will be published in the Kennel Gazette.
JUDGES MUST HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR THE APPROPRIATE LIST BEFORE ACCEPTING ANY APPOINTMENT.

Judges ignoring Breed Council Rules may be penalised by the Breed Council.

The A1, A2, and A3 lists will be reviewed, updated and voted on annually at the Judges Sub-Committee before being sent to the KC.

A1 List
For persons who have been approved by the KC to award Challenge Certificates in the breed and carried out their first appointment.

A2 List
For persons who fulfil all requirements of the A3 List and have been assessed in accordance with the KC requirements and supported by Breed Council will be accepted by the KC.

For Breed Specialists and Non-Specialists:

1. 2 assessments to be obtained at Breed Open/Limited Shows or at a General Open Show where there are 12 dogs present to be judged on the day.(At least 1 assessment must be at a Breed Open Show).

2. 1 assessment at a Breed Assessment Day where candidates must judge 5 dogs, place in order and write a critique on each, followed by a one to one with an Assessor.

Applicants will also be required to sign a declaration that they have read and understood the Boxer Breed Standard and that they will judge in accordance with it.


A3
This list contains names of persons who, as yet have not been approved by the KC and who are considered by the Breed Council to have sufficient knowledge of the Boxer and experience of judging the breed, to be recommended and supported to award Challenge Certificates.

These persons will be assessed by the KC when judging their first appointment.

Applicants both specialist and non-specialist must have completed all the qualifications for the C & B lists.

For residents in Northern Ireland, the Good Friday agreement allows prospective judges to apply for UK Kennel Club judges lists as follows:

Classes and dogs judged at National Shows in all Ireland i.e FCI CAC’s or Green Stars to count when applying for the B List.
Classes and dogs judged at International Shows in all Ireland i.e FCI CACIB’s can count for the A3 list.

All other requirements are as for UK Boxer Breed Council Definitions.


BREED SPECIALISTS must also fulfil the following requirements:-

1. Judged the breed regularly at General Open/Limited Shows and Boxer Breed Club Puppy Stakes for at least 8 years, making a total of 14 years from first exhibiting.

2. Judged both sexes at a minimum of TWO Boxer Breed Club Shows (held under KC License). One of which must be a Breed Open Show. Only Boxer Breed Club Shows judged, and whose invitation was issued while on the B List, will be accepted.

At least 100 dogs must have been judged at breed club show level. If more shows/numbers are required then Boxers judged in breed classes at Championship Shows without CC’s and Boxer Breed Club Puppy Stakes can be counted as long as the applicant was on the B List when the invitation to judge was issued.

3. Applicants must have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 Boxers to have obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book.

4. Applicants must have attended a “Movement & Conformation - Hands-On” Assessment conducted by a KC Accredited Trainer and passed (KC Policy 1/7/05).

5. Applicants must have stewarded at least 12 occasions/days at Open/Championship Shows (KC Policy), the Breed Council will require your stewarding books.

NON-SPECIALISTS

1. Must have judged the Breed regularly for 8 years and have judged BOTH sexes at TWO Boxer Breed Club Open/Limited Shows (held under KC licence).

2. At least 125 dogs at Breed Club Open/Limited Shows, more shows maybe required. ( At least one must be a Breed Open Show).

3. Must also have awarded Challenge Certificate in at least one other breed.

4. Must have 3 dogs of any breed in the KC Stud Book.

In addition to the required KC assessments, a Breed Council assessment will be carried out at each Breed Club appointment. The completed form will be held by the Breed Council secretary and each assessment will be presented to Breed Council after the second completed appointment for evaluation. If it is the opinion of Breed Council that the judging has not come up to standard, then they have the authority to request additional appointments are undertaken before any A3 application would be approved.


Applicants for inclusion onto the A3 List must complete the relevant judging application form, with all relevant certificates attached and send 2 copies to the Breed Council secretary who will forward them on to the Breed Council Scrutineers for checking. Once approved, the secretary informs the applicant who will then forward 16 copies of their application and all relevant paperwork to the Breed Council Secretary for distribution to the Breed Clubs for approval and voting. Final ratification will be made at Breed Council before inclusion on the website.


B List
For persons considered by the committees of the Boxer Clubs to have the knowledge and experience who would be supported to judge at Boxer Breed Club Open and Limited Shows, Championship Shows without CC’s and Breed Club Special Puppy Event.

Specialists:
Must have judged over a period of at least 4 years, making 10 years from first exhibiting Boxers at Open and Limited General Shows, as well as Boxer Breed Club Special Puppy Event and judged 75 Boxers at a minimum of 4 judging appointments.

Specialists must have completed the following qualifications:

1. Must have attended a seminar given by a KC Accredited Trainer and passed the relevant examination on Part 1 KC Regulations and Judging Procedure.

2. Must have attended a seminar given by a KC Accredited Trainer on, Conformation and Movement.

3. Must have attended at least one Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with relevant KC code of good practise.

Non-Specialists:
Must have judged at least 35 classes of Boxers, and judged a minimum of 100 dogs and to be on the B List of another breed.

Non Specialists must complete the same qualifications as for the specialists, unless they have been approved to award CCs in another breed at which time they are only required to:

 

1.   Have attended at least one Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with relevant KC code of good practice.

All applicants for the B list must apply to the nearest Breed Club who will approve the application and forward to the Breed Council Secretary to be included on the website.


C List
Contains the names of persons considered by the Committees of the Boxer Clubs to have sufficient knowledge and experience of the Boxer to be supported to judge the breed at General Canine Societies Open and Limited Shows.

First time applicants for the C List must fulfil the following qualifications;

Breed Specialists: Must have been actively concerned with continuous successful breeding and/or exhibiting of Boxers at Open, Limited and Championship Shows for at least 6 clear years. Any judging BEFORE this time will not count.

Applicants must apply to nearest Boxer Breed Club Secretary who will check with their committee and forward to the Breed Council Secretary for inclusion on the website.

Non-Specialists: are required to have judged at least 25 classes of Boxers.
